The 2025/2026 program of international dance workshops offered by Movimento Danza – Organismo di Promozione Nazionale is back.
The next event is a repertoire and improvisation workshop led by Jiří Pokorný, a choreographer and dancer from Prague (Czech Republic), known for his international career in companies such as Nederlands Dans Theater and Kidd Pivot.

The contemporary dance workshop will be held in Naples, at the Movimento Danza headquarters in Via Bonito 21/b, on Thursday, February 26, and Friday, February 27, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The workshop focuses on two related areas. The first is dedicated to the development of body movement through the study of various principles of improvisation. The second presents fragments of existing choreographies (repertoire) using the principles of the previous practice.

Who is Jiří Pokorný

Jiří Pokorný is a Czech choreographer living in Prague, Czech Republic.
He graduated from the National Conservatory of Dance in Prague in 2000 and continued dancing with Laterna Magika in Prague.
Three years later, he joined Nederlands Dans Theater 2 in The Hague and continued his career with NDT1. After seven years with NDT, Jiri joined the Vancouver-based company Kidd Pivot under the guidance of Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite. Jiri has worked with many world-renowned choreographers such as Jiri Kylian, Mats Ek, Ohad Naharin, Paul Lightfoot, Sol Leon, and Crystal Pite, among others. Jiri has performed in prestigious theaters around the world, including the Paris Opera, Sadler’s Wells in London, Teatro Real in Madrid, Teatro Liceu in Barcelona, Joyce Theater in New York, and many others.
In 2013, Jiri transitioned to creating his own works as a freelance choreographer and has since collaborated with companies and production houses in Europe and North America. To name a few, he has created works for NDT2, Ballet BC, Aterballetto, Basel Ballet, National Theater Mannheim, NorthWest Dance Project, National Theatre Prague, and Korzo productions in The Hague.
Jiri’s commitment to dance education is also important for his numerous collaborations with dance schools such as the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, the Juilliard School in New York, Arts Umbrella Vancouver, NDT Summer Intensive, SHARE Intensive Berlin, Orsolina28, and Architan.

​How to access the workshop
The workshop is part of U35 FREE PASS - Study and Research, an innovative initiative promoted by Movimento Danza for young artists under 35 who wish to develop and expand their technical and creative skills.

U35 FREE PASS allows free access to the workshop through an Open Call.

​The Open Call is aimed at choreographers, dancers, performers, dance movers, and creatives from various fields aged between 18 and 35, with a particular focus on the 18-25 age group.

Applications to attend Jiří Pokorný's workshop via U35 FREE PASS must be sent by February 23, 2026, to the email addresses promozione@movimentodanza.org and info@movimentodanza.org (both addresses) with the following material:
– artistic and educational curriculum vitae, including personal details;
– YouTube link to a video of your dance improvisation lasting no more than 1 minute and 30 seconds, without editing, with full-length shots and clearly visible.

For those over 35 and those not selected through the open call, the workshop is subject to a fee.
