Created by multidisciplinary Venezuelan artist Migguel Anggelo, English with an Accent is a new, hybrid work of dance and theater, narrated in a storytelling song-cycle for which we are looking to cast a company of dancers composed of immigrants and people of the immigrant experience. The story is a semi-autobiographical fable exploring the intersections of Immigrant, Latino and Queer identities, as well as the role of the artist in contemporary society.

We are committed to progressive, equitable casting. For every role, please submit all qualified performers.

Please arrive warmed up and ready to dance at the start of your appointment time. Initial call will include improvised group movement with possible additional choreography/combination. Please note, we are particularly interested in Dance and Movement Expressions from your own unique cultural background and ancestry. Dancers will dance barefoot, but if there is some footwear relevant to your improvisational work and cultural expression, you are welcome to bring that, as well.

SEEKING:

DANCERS OF THE IMMIGRANT EXPERIENCE: (Ages 18 to Adult, Any and All Genders, Ethnicities, and Cultural Backgrounds) Strong CONTEMPORARY DANCERS of the Immigrant Experience (Actual Immigrant Status a plus, but not required). This is a story of Immigrants and there is no limit to the countries from which they might originate – Diversity is essential to the telling of this story. (Singing is NOT required for this Theater/Dance-Theater piece.) Contemporary Dancers — Strong Ballet technique a plus, but inherent Individuality and Creative Expression are equally important. Paramount is the Ability to Improv with Dance and Movement Expressions from your own unique cultural background. Ability to handle Text required.
