b12 – the festival for contemporary dance and performance art in berlin 2020 – is celebrating again the absence of boredom! you can experience an incredible four weeks this coming summer from june 29th through july 26th, filled with workshops and performances. we facilitate a professional platform for performers to work with and learn from an extensive array of sought after artists from all over the world, sharing their knowledge in a stunning studio environment. while advocating for the field of contemporary dance and performance art, b12 is putting the unconventional in power and is dedicated to nurturing artists who are taking physical and emotional risks on and off stage.

a large array of approaches awaits you. don’t be intimidated by the choices. all the teachers we feature are quite amazing in their very own unique way. there is everything to dive into: from film to text to movement to acrobatics to theatrical to experimental to the unexpected to the futuristic.

the elongated workshop times give you a chance to deepen your journey in search of artistic growth, and we welcome you to choose from over 80 workshops and research experts. is there anything left to say? maybe that here at b12 you become part of a curious community that cares about the untold. whether it’s cerebral or physical or everything in-between – including the daily free-of-charge ashtanga vinyasa yoga classes, the four free-of-charge no leader improvisation jams and our final b12 party towards the end of the festival – your stay in berlin will give you an experience you will never forget!

this year b12 is organizing social events for you to connect with your peers and with the hidden treasures of berlin. please subscribe to our newsletter for updates! apart from our professional workshops, we invite anyone and everyone to our outreach workshops for the general community. in these workshops you will develop an understanding of body language, self esteem, teamwork, and find your inner dancer.

b12 is devoted to curating controversial performances and hosting different types of performance approaches:

asteroids:  b12 will present this very sought after format, performed by the participants of the performance projects. this module presents new creations from eight mind-blowing choreographers that will premiere here in berlin. (on the 11th, 12th, 25th and 26th of july 2020)

sungrazers: we invite six artists who will each present an existing evening length piece (on july 9th, 10th, 14th, 15th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 23rd and 24th 2020.)

critical mass: an informal studio showing of pieces, performed by the teachers/choreographers. (on june 30th and july 4th, 7th, 16th and 20th 2020 / free of charge)

gravitational attraction: site-specific performances at the hybrid art space setting of our new affiliated partner, trauma bar und kino, will provide the kick you need after days and weeks of researching. this other performance project format will happen only once on the 25th of july 2020 and will lead us deep into the night with the final b12 party we will all be waiting for! not to miss…

we also curate two screenings for dance on camera short films during the festival for you to enjoy! (13th and 21st of july 2020 / free of charge)

to see performances at the b12 festival, you don’t need to take workshops – everybody interested is welcome! you can find all details in the menu under “performances”.

you can apply for research workshops, somatic research, outreach and the framing motion workshop up until one day prior to the start of that workshop. however, performance projects, director's cut and discount offers have deadlines:

the dealine for the performance projects and the director's cut is april 19th, 2020. the deadline for the early bird registration is march 20th, 2020.

please note that there are a limited amount of workshop places available. regardless, we will do our best to accommodate your wishes.

1st option - direct apply
on each workshop flip card, you will find an "add" button. click on it and this workshop will be added to the list of workshops you are interested in taking. to access this list, click on the icon "my list" in the upper right menu, and a pop-up window will open. you will now be able to start the application process.

please decide from the list, for which workshops you would like to apply. for all the workshops you don't want to apply for, click "remove" and they will disappear.

you can apply for as many workshops as you would like. many people here at b12 take more than three workshops. if you are applying for more than three workshops, it would help us if you could indicate your top three favorite workshops by clicking "love this". doing this will save us all a couple of emails, making our correspondence even faster.

send us an email at researchordie[at]b12.space with the workshops you would like to take. please provide us with a video link and a biography. if you would like, you can add a short motivation letter for each workshop.

once we have received your application, we will follow up with a personalized email confirmation. please allow us a couple of days to get back to you.
